Online bingo, like all forms of commercial gambling, is illegal in the Cayman Islands under the Gambling Law originally enacted in 1964. The jurisdiction maintains strict prohibition against all commercial gaming activities, whether conducted online or on land. Since the original Gambling Act, the Cayman Islands government has upheld this comprehensive ban, with minimal exceptions granted only for non-profit raffles organized by churches and voluntary organizations.
The legal framework explicitly prohibits engaging in online gambling activities, with significant penalties imposed on violators. Players found participating in online bingo or any gambling can face fines and potential imprisonment under current legislation. However, the punishments are considerably harsher for organizers and facilitators who profit from these illegal activities, particularly under the Proceeds of Crime Law.
"Although the penalties for gambling may seem modest, it is the organizers and facilitators who have capitalized on this demand, where there are large profits to be gained. The Proceeds of Crime Law carries a maximum sentence of 14 years."
Despite the strict prohibition, overseas registered casinos remain accessible to residents and have not been explicitly blocked by Caymanian authorities. However, participating in any form of online bingo or gambling while residing in the Cayman Islands remains illegal under local law. The government continues to enforce these regulations and has proposed amendments to increase penalties and strengthen deterrence against illegal gambling activities in the community.
